An appointment shaped around your child.
Children show us how they move through play and everyday activity. We listen to the child and family, ask about their concerns and adapt assessment to their age and needs. The aim is to understand the difficulties and agree useful next steps, without expecting every child to approach an appointment in the same way.
Who is children’s home physiotherapy for?
- Children with movement, coordination or development concerns.
- Children recovering from an injury or with orthopaedic or neurological rehabilitation needs.
- Parents seeking an assessment adapted to their child’s age, activities and existing care.
How physiotherapy can help
- Understand movement, development or recovery concerns and their effect on daily activities.
- Use appropriate observation, movement and activities to assess the child's needs.
- Discuss practical goals and how suitable activities can fit into family life.
What happens during a visit?
We begin with your concerns, relevant medical history and what your child enjoys or finds difficult. Assessment may use play, observation and age-appropriate movement tasks. We explain what we are assessing and adapt the pace to the child. Recommendations and any coordination with existing healthcare or therapy support are discussed with the family.
Your physiotherapist will explain if another service or further assessment would be more appropriate.
Before we arrive
- Tell us the child’s age, what is difficult and any advice from their current healthcare or therapy team.
- Have usual equipment and comfortable clothing ready; we discuss who should attend and the child’s involvement before confirming care.
Paying for your home visit
- Self-pay
- Our standard home visit is £160 for 60 minutes. Check the visit details and payment policy before confirming.
- Health cash plans
- You pay for the visit and receive a paid itemised invoice. Check your plan’s home-visit cover, limits and claim requirements before booking.
- Private medical insurance
- Confirm that your insurer authorises home physiotherapy with the clinician providing your care. Recognition for clinic treatment does not automatically cover a home visit. Your policy may include an excess or shortfall.
Questions about this care
Can a parent or carer stay during the visit?
We discuss appropriate family or carer involvement before the appointment, including consent and the child's wishes and needs. Familiar support can help us understand daily activities and what matters to the child.
What if my child is worried or does not want to take part?
Tell us about their concerns beforehand. We explain activities in a suitable way, adapt the pace and respect their responses. Assessment and next steps can be discussed without forcing a child to complete an activity.
Can you take existing therapy advice into account?
Yes. Share relevant advice or care plans so we can understand the support already in place. Any liaison or written communication with another professional is discussed and agreed, with appropriate consent.
